Evaluations of impairment, causation, and workability should be performed by unbiased physicians who are knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced in the use of the AMA Guides.

Independent Medical Evaluations

An independent medical evaluation (IME) is an assessment by a physician not involved in the care of that individual. They are typically performed when there is, for example, a workers' compensation, personal injury, automobile casualty, or disability claim.

The International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators establishes standards for excellence.
